 The Stafford County Sheriff's Office will be holding disAbility Awareness Day ...A Community Putting the Pieces Together in conjunction with Helping Hands, Inc. Pediatric Therapy Services.

disAbility Awareness Day is a community building event that promotes awareness, education and resources to enable our community as a whole to understand and support those with disabilities.  Help promote this event by clicking on the event flyer HERE

INTERACTIVE BOOTHS  - 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (located inside)

  Autism Society of Northern Virginia

           Ask them About:

  • Mini-Grant Program
  • Medical Waiver
  • Autism Through the Lifespan

  9-1-1 Simulator:  Mock emergency call experience

  • Hands-on practice with a live operator.
  • Make sure your child knows their address.
  • Can they identify contact information and details?
  • Can they follow the directions of the operator?
  • Do they know when to call 9-1-1?

 

  Child ID Kits

  • Walk away with a picture ID to be used if child is ever missing

 

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS

 Stafford County Public Schools: Special Education Programs

10:30 a.m.

The session will provide a snapshot of instruction and behavioral practices provided to support students on the spectrum ranging in ages from preschool to postsecondary as well as the continuum of possible service options. These practices are designed to promote learning, enhance social skills and encourage independence. This presentation will provide links to resources and introduce the services available through the SCPS Parent Resource Center.

Stafford County Sheriff's Office School Resources for Our Community:  SRO's (School Resource Officers) for
               Elementary, Middle and High Schools

11:30 a.m.

Do you know each Stafford County School has a deputy assigned to them?  Do you know who your child's SRO is?  Do you know what role they play in the school's environment?  If you answered "no" to any of these questions, please stop by the SRO Interactive Booth @ 11:30 a.m.
