From fast-food to a fast detention. A 36-year-old convicted felon got more than he bargained for when he attempted to steal a firearm.
On June 1st at approximately 7:37 p.m. Deputy C.M. Sterne responded to Sonic, located at 240 McWhirt Loop, but not for their fresh tots. The caller advised a male he had never met before was currently inside his vehicle. It was further advised that it appeared the suspect was attempting to steal items within the vehicle.
As Deputy Sterne was responding, the victim confronted the suspect. The suspect would immediately take off on foot towards a nearby business as the victim gave chase. This made it easy for deputies to locate the suspect and detain him. Deputy Sterne was able to identify the suspect as Kenneth Gibson, of Culpeper due to dealing with him moments before for an unrelated incident.
The only thing out of place within the victim’s vehicle was his handgun. Gibson would attempt that “my body told me to steal a gun.” Considering Gibson was a convicted felon, having a firearm was prohibited. Gibson was charged with grand larceny, weapon possession by a felon, tampering with a vehicle, and disorderly conduct. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
