While investigating one DUI, deputies discovered a second resulting in a two birds, one stone scenario.
On September 23rd at approximately 7:16 a.m. Deputy J.L. Jones responded to Southbound I-95 near mile marker 140 for a report of an unknown medical problem. It was advised a vehicle was stopped in the left lane with the driver slumped over. As Deputy Jones arrived, medical staff advised the driver was refusing medical help and that he was noticeably intoxicated. The 25-year-old driver advised he was heading home to Manassas. Considering the driver was heading the wrong way and there were empty bottles of beer in the vehicle, Deputy Jones conducted field sobriety tests. Shortly after the driver was placed into handcuffs.
At approximately 7:32 a.m. Deputy C.S. Harding, who was on scene for the previously mentioned DUI, was informed by multiple drivers of a reckless driver a few vehicles back. Witnesses advised the suspect vehicle nearly struck a guardrail multiple times. Deputy Harding observed the suspect vehicle swaying as it approached. Deputy Harding conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who had glassy, bloodshot eyes. The 41-year-old driver advised he too was heading home and he lived in Woodbridge. He further advised he had “a couple” beers prior to driving. Deputy Harding conducted field sobriety tests and shortly after, the driver was placed into handcuffs.
Both drivers were charged with driving under the influence. Both were held until sober.
