Two wanted Triangle men attempted to grow their stash of stolen goods yesterday. Due to Stafford’s best, all they got were additional warrants.

On August 31st at approximately 11:51 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call from Home Depot, located at 305 Worth Avenue, regarding a larceny. Staff advised a male attempted to steal, but left the over $400 worth of items when he fled from staff. Staff was able to provide a vehicle description as it left the area. Luckily, Deputy S.C. Martin just happened to be in the area and observed the suspect vehicle. He then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at 7-Eleven, located at 205 Garrisonville Road.

Mere moments after stopping, the passenger bailed out and began fleeing faster than Starbucks fans when they discovered Pumpkin Spice Lattes were available. Deputy Martin radioed a description of the running suspect to incoming units as he detained the driver. The driver, Jeremy Shivers, 36, was discovered to be wanted out of four separate jurisdictions.

It would not take Stafford County long to prove, once again, they are the reigning champions of hide and seek. Detective N.D. Ridings and Detective D.V. Torrice observed the outstanding suspect pop his head out of the woods on Mine Road and quickly pulled over, pursued him, and got him into custody. The suspect, Joel Gomez, 23, was also wanted. With the wanted suspects wrangled up, deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle was over $730 worth of stolen items from other Home Depot stores. Gomez was also located with suspected controlled substances. The list of poor choices Gomez made grew when a more thorough search of his person was conducted at Rappahannock Regional Jail. He was found with additional suspected controlled substances and attempted to swallow them, earning him a felony.

Shivers was wanted out of Prince William County for failure to appear, Frederick County for failure to appear, Loudoun County for violating pretrial conditions, and the City of Fredericksburg for failure to appear, grand larceny, and conspiring to commit larceny. Due to yesterday’s actions, he added Stafford County to that list and was charged with receiving stolen goods, larceny, and driving while revoked. Gomez was wanted out of Prince William County for failure to appear, and the City of Fredericksburg for felony failure to appear, possession of controlled substances, violating pretrial conditions, grand larceny, and conspiring to commit larceny. Due to yesterday’s actions, he added Stafford County to that list and was charged with fleeing law enforcement, receiving stolen goods, possession of controlled substances, and prisoner in possession of controlled substances.

Both were served on their paperwork and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
