On August 19th at approximately 8:37 a.m. deputies responded to a North Stafford residence for a report of a home invasion that occurred the night before. The victim advised he had completed work for another man and was never compensated. The victim said that on or about August 16, 2023, he found a vehicle belonging to his debtor and saw a wallet inside. The victim removed and retained the wallet. Upon viewing the contents of the wallet, the victim realized that it belonged to an acquaintance, not the man who owed him money. The victim said he made attempts to return the property, but was unsuccessful.
On August 18th at approximately 10:00 p.m. the owner of the wallet showed up at the victim’s residence demanding the return of his wallet. The man forced his way into the residence and assaulted the victim, resulting in significant, but not life-threatening injuries. The victim returned the wallet, and the owner demanded a $1,000 additional payment to settle their differences. The victim paid the demand and the invader left.
The wallet owner, and home invader was identified as Daniel Salgado Ozuna, 25, of Charlottesville. Ozuna was taken into custody on I-95 in Stafford County on August 20th without incident. Ozuna was charged with burglary with intent to commit assault, robbery, extortion, strangulation, and simple assault. Ozuna was held at Rappahannock Regional jail without bond. The Stafford Sheriff’s Office thanks the Charlottesville Police Department and Virginia State Police for their assistance in his apprehension.
The theft of the wallet remains under investigation. |
