Third time isn’t the charm. A Dumfries man prolongs his visit to Stafford after driving in a less than safe manner.

On April 13th at approximately 9:09 p.m. Sergeant J.W. Hutcheson was traveling Southbound on Richmond Highway near Sage Lane. While traveling, he came across a swerving vehicle traveling 25 MPH in a 55 MPH zone that crossed the double yellow line. The vehicle then made a U-turn, and in the process, went off the roadway, just barely avoiding a ditch. Sergeant Hutcheson initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.

The driver, Miguel Bonilla-Reyes, 42, had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and the very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Sergeant Hutcheson inquired how much he had to drink and Reyes advised “one”. When Sergeant Hutcheson further inquired to what type of drink he consumed, Reyes responded with “one”.

Deputy E.E. West, who just finished up instructing a DUI class with our Cadets, responded to the potential DUI. After Deputy West conducted field sobriety tests on Reyes, he was taken into custody. Reyes advised this was his first time being in trouble; however, this was found out to be a lie. This was his third DUI offense. Reyes also claimed he only drank one beer; however, that was also determined to be a lie considering his blood alcohol content was .2%.

Reyes was charged with driving under the influence third offense in five years with a blood alcohol content between .15% and .2%, as well as, failure to maintain control of his vehicle. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
