A Washington D.C. man is in jail after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit in Stafford County yesterday.

On January 6th at 1:11 p.m. deputies responded to Olde Forge subdivision for a disturbance. A caller reported a female being dragged through the area by an SUV.

Sergeant N. Zotos was nearby and located the blue Lincoln Navigator as it disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Olde Forge Drive and Thomas Avenue. The suspect proceeded to drive off the roadway onto the grass shoulder and initiated a pursuit.

The suspect continued off road parallel to southbound Warrenton Road as Sgt. Zotos monitored his escape path from the actual roadway. The suspect proceeded to go airborne as he drove back onto Warrenton Road and continued toward Cambridge Street. As Deputy M.E. Gordon and Deputy N.D. Fonseca III arrived to assist, the suspect turned into the access road of 301 Warrenton Road and sped down the gravel drive.

Facing the conundrum of a dead end, the suspect bailed out of the moving SUV. The SUV rolled into a concrete barrier as the suspect ran around the barrier into the woods toward Quarles Mobile Home Park. Deputies continued the pursuit on foot and ordered the winded suspect to stop numerous times. The suspect yelled, “I didn’t do nothing,” which technically the double negative made his statement correct.

The suspect was quickly taken into custody and identified as Carl Taylor, 48. He was arrested and charged with eluding, driving suspended, obstruction of justice and failing to stop at the stop sign.

Based on the investigation of the original complaint, deputies also obtained charges of domestic assault and battery, strangulation, and abduction. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. The victim was checked by medics at the scene.
