“Operation Identification” is a property-marking program, which requires Stafford County citizens to inscribe their personal property with a unique identifying number to prevent theft and to enhance the identification and return of property in the event the property is stolen. The personal property is inventoried, listed by make and brand names, model numbers, and vehicle identification or serial numbers. Property, such as jewelry, furniture etc., which does not have identification markings is photographed in such a way to aid in its identification and recovery of such property in the event it is stolen. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit will assist citizens in providing the necessary inventory forms, and upon request, provide an engraving tool for those who do not have such tools. These records and photographs of property will be maintained by the property owner and will not be made part of the Sheriff’s Office Records or custody.
