A wanted 53-year-old Stafford man who is a fan of reality TV, was quickly informed of the reality he got himself into Sunday afternoon.

On October 29th at approximately 7:18 p.m. Deputy X.D. Bates responded to a residence in Stafford in attempts to serve a warrant. Gary Melvin was wanted out of Stafford for a probation violation. When Deputy Bates could not locate Melvin at the residence, he did not give up. Instead, Deputy Bates began canvassing nearby locations to locate him.

It would not take Deputy Bates long to locate Melvin behind the wheel on Garrisonville Road. He conducted a traffic stop at the Wendy’s, located at 145 Garrisonville Road, and made contact with Melvin to inform him he was under arrest. During their interaction, Melvin advised he watches the reality show “COPS” and this is not how incidents like this should go. Considering the suspected controlled substances located on his person during a search incident to arrest, Deputy Bates informed him this was not an episode of “COPS”.

The age-old question of “bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do when they come for you” was answered when Melvin was served on his outstanding warrant, and a new charge of possession of controlled substances. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,000 secured bond, where hopefully, something good on TV is available.
