A Fredericksburg man faces a plethora of charges after an early morning disturbance and a return to the scene of the crime in a North Stafford neighborhood this weekend.

On April 23rd at 1:20 a.m. Deputy J.D. McLean responded to a past occurred assault in Garrison Woods. She learned the adult male victim had been assaulted by another male in the apartment complex. During the assault, the victim was pushed into the side of his vehicle causing a dent and broken window. The suspect then left the scene.

At 11:00 p.m. Deputy McLean, Deputy C.T. Richardson and Deputy J.W. Ahern responded back to Garrison Woods after a witness reported the assault suspect had returned to the scene of the crime. As deputies approached the suspect, he jumped into the passenger seat of a car and instructed the driver to leave. Fortunately the driver did not leave and complied with law enforcement instructions to remain at the scene.

The suspect was ordered out of the vehicle and was told he was being detained. Instead of complying, the suspect elbowed a deputy in the face and tried to flee on foot. The attempt to escape failed miserably and he was taken into custody.

The charges continued to grow as the suspect supplied a fictitious name. He was eventually positively identified as Freddie Carter, Jr., 37. While it might be easier to tell you what he wasn’t charged with, here are his charges: assault and battery on law enforcement, obstruction, identity theft, unlawful name change, false identification to law enforcement, vandalism, and assault and battery. We aren’t done yet, we are just pausing for a breath. Carter was already wanted in Stafford for fail to appear on a second offense DUI. He was wanted in Spotsylvania for failure to appear on a drug charge and he was wanted in Southampton for violation of probation for felony eluding. Carter was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
