It’s never a good idea to be caught riding dirty; however, it’s even worse if the vehicle belongs to someone else. Multiple controlled substances were seized after the investigation of a stolen vehicle.

On March 7th at approximately 10:25 a.m. Deputy D.R. Ludolph responded to America’s Best Value Inn, located at 605 Warrenton Road, for a disturbance. When Deputy Ludolph arrived on scene, the victim advised her vehicle and credit card were stolen by an acquaintance, identified as Michael Brooks, 53.

At approximately 12:18 p.m. deputies responded to a possible address of Brooks on Kings Highway. Lo and behold, the stolen vehicle was there. While interviewing Brooks inside the residence about how the vehicle got from point A to point B, Deputy B.W. Gildea observed suspected controlled substances in plain view. Deputy Gildea also located suspected controlled substances within the stolen vehicle. When deputies informed Brooks he was under arrest, he was in a bit of disbelief as to why.

When Deputy Ludolph inquired about the stolen credit card, Brooks denied knowing anything about it. That lie was quickly discovered during the search incident to arrest, where the stolen credit card was located in Brooks’ pocket. The victim had her vehicle and credit card returned to her.

Brooks was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, credit card theft, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
