A wanted Stafford County man learned a valuable lesson yesterday: do not run from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, you will just go to jail tired.

On September 12th at 8:57 p.m. deputies responded to the Super 8 Motel at 25 Wicomico Drive for a warrant service. They had information Alex Stewart, 29, was at the motel and he was wanted for a failure to appear on an assault charge.

As Deputy S.C. Jett approached the motel on foot, he saw Stewart descending the staircase from the second floor. Deputy Jett ran to the bottom of the staircase to cut off Stewart’s exit and Stewart climbed over the railing as if to jump from the midpoint of the stairs.

Stewart was instructed to stop, but seemed to have a moment of confusion on whether to stop, continue on the stairs or jump. He elected for the latter and leapt down to the parking lot and sprinted through the parking lot of Wendy’s. The tempting aroma of the Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger Combo did not slow the foot chase as Stewart bolted across Garrisonville Road with Deputy Jett on his heels.

Alas, Stewart did not have the stamina of Deputy Jett and he stopped out of breath in the Patient First parking lot. Stewart was taken into custody and served the outstanding warrant. He was additionally charged with obstruction of justice and held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
