A reckless driver was incarcerated after her attempt to elude deputies on I-95 this morning.

At 8:03 a.m. today, Deputy R.L. Allen observed a Nissan Rogue travelling southbound on I-95 near the 143 mile-marker at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. Deputy Allen activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop, however the suspect had other ideas. She continued to weave through traffic travelling at over 80 mph, initiating a pursuit.

Deputy R.M. Connelly was also travelling southbound on I-95, just ahead of the pursuit, and the suspect blew past his marked patrol car. Deputy Connelly joined the chase as the suspect continued her aggressive driving.

As the suspect reached the 140 mile-marker, she moved to the right shoulder. Another motorist inadvertently moved to the shoulder in front of the suspect, blocking the suspect’s escape route. Deputy Connelly positioned his cruiser to block the front and driver’s side of the suspect vehicle and Deputy Allen blocked the rear.

The suspect was uncooperative, but was taken into custody. She was identified as Georgiette Kwachie, 49, of Woodbridge. Kwachie complained the other traffic was moving too slowly and mistakenly believed she was not required to stop for law enforcement.

Kwachie was charged with eluding, reckless driving, holding a phone while operating a vehicle, following too closely and a traffic lane violation. She was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
