Knockoff Necklace Scam

According to Mark Twain, “there’s gold in them thar hills,” but a local pawn shop confirmed there was not gold in jewelry an unsuspecting customer purchased in a local convenience store parking lot.

On August 12th Deputy A.J. Deasy handled a phone complaint for a fraud. The victim reported he was approached by a woman in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 201 Garrisonville Road. He assisted the woman with purchasing fuel for her vehicle and she offered to sell him a gold necklace and ring for $200. The woman claimed the jewelry was worth thousands of dollars.

The victim purchased the jewelry, but a quick stop at a pawn shop proved the jewelry was fake. Residents are reminded this is a common scam and you should avoid purchasing jewelry in the parking lots of convenience stores. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
