A check of a suspicious car in a North Stafford parking lot Friday night resulted in serious charges for a juvenile.

On July 29th at 10:24 p.m. Deputy J.W. Ahern responded to the Porter Library on Parkway Boulevard to check a suspicious vehicle. He received information three people were in a Toyota Rav4 in the parking lot of the closed building.

As Deputy Ahern arrived, he activated the overhead spotlights of his marked patrol car and approached the Toyota on foot. The driver quickly put the Toyota in reverse and accelerated toward the deputy. Fortunately, Deputy Ahern was able to extend his arms and push off the rear of the vehicle and avoided being run over.

Deputy Ahern gave commands for the driver to stop and radioed for backup units to respond. As additional units arrived, the occupants were called from the Toyota and identified. A check of the vehicle tags determined they were stolen from Fairfax County. A check of the Vehicle Identification Number showed the Toyota was stolen from Stafford County.

The driver was identified as a 17-year-old male. Juvenile Intake was contacted and the driver was charged with receiving stolen property and felonious assault. He was held at the Juvenile Detention Center pending a court hearing. The two passengers were released.

The vehicle owner was contacted and Deputy J.J. Suh escorted her to the scene to retrieve her vehicle. The stolen license plates were seized and the investigation is ongoing.
