Third Offense DUI Arrest

A wanted Manassas man was arrested for third offense DUI Sunday evening after an alert citizen called to report his erratic driving.

On May 22nd at 6:15 p.m. Deputy B.E. Vaughn responded to the 2000 block of Poplar Road for a possible intoxicated driver. The caller relayed a black Mustang was all over the roadway, going into the oncoming lane of travel.

Deputy Vaughn located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. As the suspect pulled over, he struck a mailbox. The suspect was identified as Jose Melara Alvarado, 34. Melara Alvarado had glassy, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. Field sobriety tests were administered and he was arrested.

Melara Alvarado was charged with DUI third offense within five years with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .20 and no driver’s license. Additionally, he was found to be wanted in Henrico, Manassas City and Prince William for contempt of court. The three outstanding warrants were served and Melara Alvarado was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
