A trespasser at a local motel earned the crime fail of the week after talking his way into a jail cell. The motel may not have left the light on for him, but Rappahannock Regional Jail was fully illuminated.

On March 14th at 9:57 a.m. Deputy D.T. Aubrecht responded to the Motel 6 on Warrenton Road for a trespasser. Staff at the motel advised Gavin Brown, 20, of Maryland, was denied a room because he could not show identification.

Deputy Aubrecht found Brown on the lobby floor and was able to obtain a valid government ID, but Brown no longer wanted to rent a room. Showing a great deal of compassion, Deputy Aubrecht escorted Brown outside and asked if there was another motel in the area he would like to visit. This led Brown to weave a tapestry of obscenities toward the deputy that may still be hanging in the space over the Warrenton Road corridor.

Staff from the motel responded to the parking lot and informed Brown he was trespassed from the property. When Brown refused to leave, he was promptly arrested and transported to the magistrate.

After being served the warrant, Brown told the magistrate he would not appear for court. This earned Brown a $1,000 bond on the trespassing charge and a stay at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
