A wanted suspect flees from a second story window, but is apprehended by responding deputies.

On June 13 at 1:30 p.m., deputies responded to Stafford Hospital Center (2023 Jefferson Davis Highway) for a wanted person. It was learned the male, Deandre Alston, 29, of Chesterfield, in attempt to evade law enforcement, made an ambitious leap from the balcony of his second story hospital room. He then entered the lobby and fled through the front door.

Deputies responded to the area to search for Alston. Deputy E.C. Taylor began to walk a trail in the area which led him to Clarke Hill Road where he noticed a parked Budget rental truck with the rear roll-up door unlocked and ajar. When the door was opened, it revealed Alston inside, still wearing his hospital band and IV port. Not ready to give-up, Alston jumped out of the truck and continued to flee on-foot.

Deputy Taylor quickly gained ground on Alston who attempted an evasive maneuver in an effort to lose the deputy. Alston, who was too focused on how to evade Deputy Taylor, did not see First Sergeant D.F. Purcell approaching from his side. After a brief struggle, Alston was successfully taken into custody, but continued to resist. During the encounter, he assaulted one of the deputies.

Alston was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, and tampering with a vehicle. He was also served the two outstanding probation violation warrants. Alston was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
