A suspicious person call leads to the arrest of a wanted person who now faces several additional charges.

On June 2 at 4:11 a.m., Deputy E.R. Houde and Deputy C.T. Richardson responded to the area of Landmark Drive and Jefferson Davis Highway for a report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, the deputies located the male who was unsteady on his feet and appeared intoxicated. The male provided his name and stated he had a friend coming to pick him up. Deputy Houde ran his name through law enforcement databases, but found no identity to match. The suspect’s ride never materialized and he was informed he was being arrested for public intoxication.

As the deputies attempted to take him into custody he resisted and a struggle ensued. The suspect kicked both deputies before he was successfully placed in handcuffs. Debit cards in his possession provided his actual identity, John Gant, 34, of Stafford. It was discovered Gant was wanted out of Stafford County for a probation violation. During a search of his belongings, a controlled substance was found.

Gant was charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, providing false identification to law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of justice, and public intoxication. He was also served the outstanding warrant. Gant was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
