A DUI driver receives multiple charges after resisting arrest and assaulting a deputy.

On February 11 at 8:08 p.m., Deputy G.P. McCaulley observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. Deputy McCaulley stopped the vehicle in the area of Garrisonville Road and Mine Road.

Deputy McCaulley identified the driver as Everett Baker Jr., 29, of Prince William. Baker had slurred speech and smelled of alcoholic beverages. Field sobriety tests were administered and deputies advised Baker he was under arrest for driving under the influence. As deputies attempted to put Baker in handcuffs, he became belligerent and began to resist deputies. He then shoved his shoulder back striking the deputy in the chest. After a brief struggle, deputies were able to secure Baker in handcuffs and place him in a patrol vehicle.
Once inside the vehicle, Baker began slamming his head repeatedly into the partition forcing the deputy to pull over. Once stopped, Baker continued to lash out at the vehicle by kicking at the left rear door and window. The transport was later able to continue on.

Baker refused a breath test and was transported to the magistrate’s office. At the magistrate’s office he continued to act belligerently. Baker yelled and screamed in an attempt to disrupt the magistrate’s proceedings. Despite his efforts, warrants were issued for driving under the influence, assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of obstruction, and refusal of test. A bail hearing could not be conducted at the time due to his behavior.
