On December 21, 2016, just days before Christmas, Kristin Davis thought her life—and her unborn child’s life—was ending as a red light runner plowed into her vehicle while she was crossing an intersection. The impact pushed her vehicle across four lanes of traffic into another vehicle stopped at a light. She was trapped in the vehicle until first responders came to her rescue. At 7 months pregnant, her mind was consumed with the safety of her unborn child. Once at the hospital, she wept as she learned her baby was alive. Today, her beautiful son is happy and healthy. Later, Kristin learned that the driver who struck her was driving on a suspended license from a DUI conviction earlier that year.

The experience led Kristin to join Mothers Against Drunk Driving. This afternoon, we were humbled to have Kristin share her story with us during roll-call. Her incredibly moving story was a poignant reminder of the importance of aggressive DUI enforcement.
Tomorrow, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will join numerous law enforcement agencies across the country for MADD’s “Saturation Saturday” campaign. Throughout the weekend, we will be conducting enhanced DUI enforcement and increasing social media messaging to encourage sober driving.

We are asking our community to remember Kristin’s story next time you consider getting behind the wheel after having a drink. Please commit to driving sober—this weekend and every weekend.
