We are so grateful for the support of our local businesses and community in keeping Stafford safe. We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our residents.

That was certainly the case last month when pharmacist Emily Gelzinis stopped a suspect from fraudulently obtaining prescription medication—on her first day on the job!

On July 5, 2019, deputies responded to the Giant on Celebrate Virginia Parkway. Emily told deputies that it was her first day as a pharmacist and someone had just called in a prescription. The phone number didn’t seem right to her, so she contacted the doctor and learned he had not ordered that medication.

When the caller arrived to pick up the prescription, Emily called the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found the suspect sitting in the waiting area. Gary Anthony, 24, of Camp Springs, MD was taken into custody for prescription fraud, conspiracy, and identity fraud. He was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

Sheriff Decatur was proud to recognize Emily for her assistance during this incident. The incident illustrates one small way working together with our local businesses and community members can help reduce prescription fraud and drug abuse. Great work, Emily!
