Stafford, VA. A suspect was arrested on Monday evening by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office following a drunk driver complaint that led to a brief pursuit during which the suspect struck a deputy’s cruiser.

On June 3, 2019, at approximately 6:19 p.m., Deputy Fulford responded to 320 Worth Avenue in reference to a drunk driver who was observed driving over a median. The deputy located the suspect vehicle in the IHOP parking lot with a flat tire.

Deputy Fulford made contact with the driver who was identified as Andrea Grimes, 41, of Stafford. She appeared disoriented and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The deputy also detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle and observed a bottle of alcohol in the suspect’s purse.

While they were talking, the suspect rolled up the window and refused to roll it down more than about an inch. The deputy then asked the suspect to exit her vehicle and she refused. She subsequently placed the vehicle in reverse and drove across Worth Avenue in the direction of Home Depot.

The deputy returned to his vehicle and followed the suspect. He activated his emergency equipment, but the suspect refused to stop. He then pulled up next to her in an attempt to prevent her from leaving the parking lot. The suspect then struck the deputy’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle subsequently came to a stop and the deputy took Grimes into custody.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where a search warrant for blood was executed. However, during the blood draw, the suspect kept flailing and grabbed a nurse and a deputy. She also repeatedly used vulgar language and yelled at the hospital staff.

Grimes was charged with vandalism, assault on a law enforcement officer, assault and battery, felony eluding, DUI, DUI Refusal, obstruction of justice, drinking while driving, driving suspended, abusive language, and expired registration. She was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
