Stafford, VA. A woman was arrested on drug charges on Wednesday after overdosing on the side of the road. At the time, she was with her four-year-old child as well as the child’s father who was arrested for driving under the influence.

On April 24, 2019, at approximately 6:14 p.m., Sgt. Zotos came upon a disabled vehicle on the side of the road while on patrol in the area of White Oak Road and Northside Drive. He observed two male subjects who appeared to be changing a flat tire. There was also a female subject standing near the passenger side doors and a four-year-old child.

While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Preston Rance, 33, of Bumpass, VA, Sgt. Zotos observed the child repeatedly trying to run into the middle of the roadway. When he approached the female subject to ask her to keep an eye on the child, she suddenly leaned over with her eyes closed. He prevented her from falling and helped lower her to a seated position on the ground. She began mumbling and became unresponsive.

Sgt. Zotos immediately requested that the male passenger take the child away from the scene. He then administered Narcan to the woman and she recovered. Rescue personnel arrived on scene, but the woman denied medical treatment. She was identified as Skye Trend, 30, of Fredericksburg.

She was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital. A search of the vehicle yielded a syringe and a clear baggie with white powdery residue. Trend was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and child neglect. She was released on an unsecured bond.

In the meantime, Deputy Bolinsky was speaking with Rance when he detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. In addition, his eyes were bloodshot, his speech was slurred, and he was unsteady on his feet. Field sobriety tests were subsequently conducted and a search warrant for blood was executed.

Rance was taken into custody and incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on an unsecured bond until sober. He is charged with driving under the influence, driving suspended and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
