Stafford, VA. A suspect was arrested on Wednesday by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office after embezzling over $93,000 from the company where she worked as a bookkeeper and then using the funds to pay for plastic surgery, wedding expenses, and other purchases.

On March 18, 2019, Detective E.L. McCullough began investigating reports that a former bookkeeper of No Limits Construction located on Cool Springs Road had made numerous unauthorized personal purchases using the company credit card.

The company owner told the detective that he had been contacted by his credit card company informing him that one of his accounts was going to be closed due to lack of payment. The company owner began looking into the issue and learned that the former bookkeeper had made numerous unauthorized personal purchases including a wedding dress for $2000 and a wedding planner for $25,000.

The suspect also paid over $7,200 using the company card to have her buttocks lifted by Elite Plastic Surgery in Miami, Florida. Other purchases included clothing, perfume, household furniture, airline tickets, and an all-terrain vehicle. She also forged five checks totaling nearly $10,000.

The suspect has been identified as Vanessa Cline, 32, of Stafford. She had replaced another former bookkeeper for the company who pleaded guilty to charges last year after embezzling at least $150,000 from the company between January 2016 and January 2018.

Cline is charged with five counts of embezzlement, five counts of forgery, and five counts of uttering. She was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on an $8,000 bond.
