Stafford, VA. A suspect was arrested on Wednesday by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office for driving under the influence after an auto accident led to the injury of one of the occupants of the vehicle.
On February 20, 2019, at approximately 8:36 p.m., Deputy Flick responded to the 3900 block of Jefferson Davis Highway for a single vehicle auto accident. Upon arrival, Deputy Flick located the remnants of a pickup truck which had rolled over, destroying a sign. A witness advised the deputy that he had seen the vehicle swerving and the driver threw a beer bottle out the window.
The deputy then made contact with the three occupants of the vehicle. They admitted they were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The driver was identified as Gerson Alexis Aguilar Matozo, 20, of Triangle, VA. Deputy Flick immediately detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person.
Search warrants for blood were executed at a local hospital. The occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital for evaluation. One of the occupants—a 24-year-old male subject from Triangle, VA—received multiple lacerations to his forehead. The suspect was uninjured.
Matozo was charged with DUI maiming, DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain control, underage possession of alcohol, and drinking while driving. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
