Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Tuesday after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a mailbox on Mountain View Road and fled the scene.

On April 17, 2018, at approximately 12:44 p.m., Deputy Jason Aubry responded to a call regarding a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch on Mountain View Road near Poplar Road. The driver then fled the scene.

Deputies began canvassing the area for the driver. Shortly thereafter, Deputy Brandon Reed located the suspect in a vehicle on Poplar Road. At first, the suspect denied his involvement in the crash, but eventually he admitted to driving the vehicle off the road. He also admitted to hitting a mailbox.

The suspect, identified as Joshua Isaiah Godbolt, 18, of Stafford, told deputies he did not have a driver’s license. Deputies asked who owned the vehicle and the suspect said his grandfather owned it and would be upset if he knew he took it. However, deputies learned that the vehicle had recently been reported stolen. The owner confirmed with deputies that he did not give the suspect permission to use the vehicle.

Godbolt was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond on charges of grand larceny, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless driving, no driver’s license, and hit and run.
