Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Wednesday after she attempted to steal a dog collar and other small items from the Walmart on Garrisonville Road in Stafford County.

On April 11, 2018 at approximately 11:15 a.m., Deputy Dominic Torrice responded to a call regarding a shoplifter in custody at Walmart. Upon arrival, Deputy Torrice learned from a loss prevention employee that a woman identified as Serena Marie Ball, 46, of Locust Grove, had opened a bag of dog bones and stuck several in her pocket. Ball then took a tag off a shirt and stuck it on a dog collar.

Security video footage revealed that Ball failed to scan and pay for several items, including the dog collar, at the self-checkout. After comparing the receipts to the items in the suspect’s cart, the deputy discovered that Ball had stolen a total of $39.69 worth of items.

The suspect became belligerent and informed deputies she was injured, prompting rescue personnel to respond. Rescue personnel determined the suspect was not injured. The suspect continuously screamed and refused to cooperate with deputies attempting to escort her into the cruiser. When deputies took the suspect to the booking area of the jail, a dog collar was located on the suspect’s person and a controlled substance was discovered in her purse.

Ball was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail. She was charged with petit larceny, possession of a controlled substance, and bringing a restricted item into the jail.
