March 28, 2017

On March 27, 2017, at approximately 11:34 PM, patrol units responded to a domestic dispute at the Spring Lake Motel located at 3817 Jefferson Davis Highway. While en route to the disturbance, the deputies were informed that a male subject had fired a weapon inside one of the apartments and a physical description was provided.

As patrol units arrived on scene, Deputy D.G. French and First Sergeant D.F. Purcell observed a male who matched the suspect’s description standing near Jefferson Davis Highway at the entrance of the parking lot. The male subject, who appeared to be very unsteady on his feet, was given commands over the loudspeaker of Deputy French’s patrol car. As the subject moved from the shoulder of the roadway into the highway, deputies were able to act quickly and take him into custody without further incident.

The subject, who was later identified as Robert Denardi, was subsequently searched and no weapons were found on his person. Deputies then interviewed witnesses and were advised that an argument had occurred and during the exchange, an assault had taken place and a handgun had been discharged multiple times inside the apartment. A search of Mr. Denardi’s apartment revealed multiple shell casings on the floor, several bullet holes in the wall, and one bullet hole through the front window which exited the apartment and struck the wind shield of a vehicle parked directly outside.

Robert Steven Denardi, age 32 of Jefferson Davis Highway, was charged with Discharge of a Firearm in an Occupied Dwelling, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Brandishing a Firearm, Assault and Battery, two counts of Destruction of Property and Public Intoxication.
