A 47-year-old Portsmouth man who attempted to leave the scene of an accident did not make it too far before plotting a new course to Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On February 29th, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Sergeant R.S. Dominguez was at the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Richmond Highway when he observed a hit and run. A white pickup truck struck another vehicle, causing approximately $6,000 worth of damages, before continuing Southbound on Richmond Highway. While Sergeant Dominguez ensured the victim was not injured, Sergeant J.W. Hutcheson would stop the vehicle just down the road near Austin Park Drive. Deputy J.A. Martin would respond to assist Sergeant Hutcheson.

The driver, Geovanni Alexander Garcia Orellana, had clear signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. He would also admit to consuming several tequila drinks prior to driving. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located an open bottle of tequila, as well as, a machete hidden under the driver’s seat.

Garcia Orellana was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .2, carrying a concealed weapon, drinking while driving, felony hit and run, as well as, driving without insurance. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
