This weekend was filled with an unusual number of pursuits. Perhaps the most unusual was a 38-year-old man who struck an Aquia Harbour Police Department vehicle in his misguided attempt to elude justice.

On February 19th at approximately 6:36 p.m. Sergeant R.S. Dominguez was in the area of Richmond Highway and Washington Drive when he heard Aquia Harbour Police request assistance over the radio. A Sergeant with the Aquia Harbour Police Department advised his vehicle was just struck and the suspect vehicle was heading towards Richmond Highway. The suspect proceeded Northbound on Richmond Highway and made a U-turn at Coachman Circle to head Southbound on Richmond Highway.

The U-turn allowed Sergeant Dominguez to join the pursuit and the chase continued onto Garrisonville Road. The fleeing motorist proceeded to drive his Buick Encore over the median strip after passing the I-95 ramps. The Buick was clearly not happy about this abuse and stubbornly journeyed over the concrete divider, blowing out a tire. Despite that, the suspect continued on, but quickly realized that Stafford County deputies were now pursuing him. He would stop in front of the old Pizza Hut, located at 2883 Richmond Highway, and held his hands out the window in a posture of surrender. The flat tire had severely limited the Encore’s encore.

The investigation revealed Aquia Harbour Police attempted to pull over the driver, William Weber, for speeding within Aquia Harbour. Instead of complying, Weber continued on, sped past a red light, and not only struck a civilian’s vehicle, but the police department vehicle as well. Sergeant Dominguez charged Weber with felony eluding and felony hit and run. Aquia Harbour Police charged Weber with two counts of reckless driving. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
