A BOLO from a nearby jurisdiction resulted in not only two wanted men being located, but also dangerous drugs being removed from the street.

On January 31st at approximately 3:04 p.m. Deputy S.C. Martin was on Richmond Highway when he received a “Be on the Lookout” for a maroon Dodge SUV. The suspect vehicle was connected to multiple thefts in Fairfax County, as well as, thought to be used by Matthew Stafford, 32, of Stafford. Stafford from Stafford was wanted out of Fredericksburg for two counts of larceny and driving while revoked for a DUI offense.

The sharp-eyed Deputy Martin would locate the suspect vehicle in the 3300 block of Richmond Highway and conducted a traffic stop in the Last Stop Mart parking lot. As a spoiler alert, this would in fact be the occupants last stop. Due to the background information Deputy Martin received, both occupants were detained as additional units responded to assist. The driver was identified as Stafford. The passenger was identified as Shane Ray, 24, of Stafford. He was discovered to be wanted out of Spotsylvania for a capias. During an inventory search of the vehicle, Deputy Martin located suspected controlled substances and paraphernalia littered throughout the vehicle.

Stafford was charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of paraphernalia, driving while revoked for a DUI offense, and felony endangerment. Ray was charged with possession of controlled substances, and possession of paraphernalia. Both were also served on their outstanding warrants and were held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

The list of charges does not end there. Upon further investigation, Deputy Martin discovered Stafford missed court that very day for driving while revoked for a DUI offense and a failure to appear charge. The new failure to appear charge had not had a chance to be entered, but can be properly served considering he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The Fairfax County Police Department was informed of the arrest and they will be obtaining warrants related to their larceny cases.
