We know the DeLorean in Back to the Future needed 88 mph to activate the flux capicator and travel in time. A wanted King George man never reached that speed in his Toyota Scion xB, leaving him to face a judge in present day Stafford County after his failed pursuit last night.

On January 21st at 6:23 p.m. Deputy X.D. Bates observed a red Toyota Scion failing to maintain the lane of travel on Barrett Heights Road. The Scion proceeded to run the stop sign as it turned onto westbound Garrisonville Road.

Deputy Bates followed the vehicle as it turned onto Eustace Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Rocky Way Drive. The Scion driver had a different idea. Instead of complying with the traffic stop, the suspect sped up to 60 mph in the residential area and initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit briefly ended at the intersection of Rocky Way Drive and Larkwood Court when the suspect failed to navigate the turn and careened into the snow filled ditch. Somehow the driver was able to coax the Scion from the small gully and the chase continued through the subdivision.

The suspect turned onto Burns Road, then Settlers Way and then made a critical error with a right hand turn back onto Larkward Court…into the cul-de-sac. At the literal “end of the road” the suspect was pinned in by Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen, Deputy Bates and the woods. The 4-minute pursuit covered just one and a half miles.

The suspect refused to cooperate at the conclusion of the chase and would not exit the Scion. Deputies continued to negotiate, as kind neighbors provided fresh Wawa coffee to the deputies on perimeter. Finally, after an hour of negotiations, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody. He was identified as Allen Stone, 38, of King George.

Stone was found to be wanted for contempt of court in Prince William and deputies discovered suspected controlled substances in the Scion. Stone was served the outstanding warrant and additionally charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence of drugs, driving revoked, obstruction, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, aggressive driving, a traffic lane violation and three counts of failing to stop at a stop sign. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

A huge thank you to the neighborhood for the coffee and their cooperation in this incident. Excellent work by the deputies, displaying remarkable sangfroid in this tense standoff.
