Traffic will be detoured 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., October 14-17

FREDERICKSBURG - Beginning Tuesday, October 14, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Washington Street located in southern Stafford to through traffic from the entrance to Gari Melchers Studio at Belmont to Ingleside Drive.

The road will be closed from 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. through Friday, October 17.

VDOT will be stabilizing the embankment to stop the erosion along Washington Street. Specialized equipment called a soil launcher will be used to work on the steep landscape. The soil launcher will create a retaining wall by drilling holds beneath the road and inserting steel rods into the ground.

During the closure traffic will be directed around the work zone. To reach Gari Melchers Studio at Belmont use Route 17 business to access the entrance on Washington Street.
