POTENTIAL FOR ICY ROADS TOMORROW MORNING
Motorists encouraged to monitor weather, check 511Virginia before traveling

FREDERICKSBURG – Snow is forecast for the Fredericksburg area Thursday night into early Friday morning, with the potential for icy driving conditions early Friday as pavement temperatures drop below freezing.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will mobilize at approximately 8 p.m. this evening in Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties, and along Interstate 95.

Crews and equipment are prepared to plow snow, and will apply chemicals as needed to melt ice and provide traction for motorists.

Rain is forecast to fall along the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. VDOT will monitor road conditions and deploy personnel and equipment as needed in these areas.

Motorists planning to drive Friday morning are advised to monitor weather and current road conditions before starting a trip. Motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org, or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time road conditions in any area of the state.

Although a road may appear clear, drivers could still encounter ice, especially on low-volume roads, bridges, interstate ramps and overpasses. Due to lower surface temperatures, these areas are more likely to develop ice.

VDOT’s Customer Service Center is open 24 hours a day to answer questions and take reports of roadway hazards at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
