Stafford, Va. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office reports that the newly upgraded radio communication system will become operational for the Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 7:00 am.
The transition from the current communications system to the new system will be seamless in nature.

The new radio system will ensure that first responders have the ability to communicate with the Emergency Communications Center from anywhere in Stafford County, eliminating "dead" spots that currently affect certain areas of the county. The new 700-800 mhz system will also be encrypted, providing maximum safety for first responders and the citizens they are responding to help. Due to the encryption, scanners currently used by citizens to listen to Sheriff's Office radio traffic will be ineffective.
