Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. One 35-year-old Maryland Monopoly man couldn’t make his way around the board before being sent to jail.

On April 18th at approximately 7:00 p.m. Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen traveled past the Boardwalk and Park Place to end up at the Quality Inn, located at 28 Greenspring Drive. While there, he observed a male standing next to a dumpster who appeared to be urinating. While the business does have free parking, it is not a designated bathroom.

Sergeant Jacobeen made contact with the suspect, who had the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Since being drunk in public is against the rules in both the real world and Monopoly Land, Sergeant Jacobeen attempted to identify the suspect. Just like a real game of Monopoly with the family, the suspect got agitated and began yelling. The suspect also advised he couldn’t be detained. He would be proved wrong.

While the suspect took a chance card and resisted, Sergeant Jacobeen was able to detain the suspect. This run around the board was over when Sergeant Jacobeen discovered the suspect was wanted out of Fairfax, and Prince George’s County Maryland. The suspect advised he was intoxicated due to him playing “drunk Monopoly.” Unfortunately for him, rolling doubles would not get him out of this. He was charged with public intoxication, obstruction of justice, as well as, served on his Fairfax warrant. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,500 secured bond.
