| Challenge accepted. A 35-year-old Stafford man made the faulty mistake of trying to run from law enforcement while in an intoxicated state.
On August 11th at approximately 1:08 p.m. Deputy J.W. McAlister responded to Waffle House, located at 42 Civilian Street, for a disturbance. It was advised a male, who appeared intoxicated, was talking inappropriately to female employees. Before Deputy McAlister could make contact with the wild waffle whisper, Fire Marshal D.M. Pappas observed the suspect on Celebrate Virginia Parkway.
The suspect was actively carrying a case of beer and decided to crack one open and consume it during his walk. Deputy McAlister and Fire Marshal Pappas made contact with the suspect and noticed signs of intoxication. When asked for his identification, the suspect complied; however, quickly yelled out “you’re gonna have to catch me,” before breaking out into a sprint.
Deputy McAlister and Fire Marshal Pappas engaged in a foot pursuit as the suspect ran towards Banks Ford parkway and into the middle of Warrenton Road. There, he was detained. The suspect, David Owens, admitted to “drinking all night” and only ran to give law enforcement “a hard time.” Owens was charged with public intoxication and fleeing from law enforcement. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond. |
