A 40-year-old Stafford woman made her second offense DUI pretty obvious after numerous drunk driving complaints and an auto accident.
On July 19th at approximately 4:22 p.m. Sergeant E.E. West began to respond to Richmond Highway for quite a few drunk driver complaints. These complaints had the common theme of a white Acura swerving all over the road as it traveled Southbound. Within a minute of the last complaint, Sergeant West arrived at the Richmond Highway and Telegraph Road intersection to observe a commotion in the middle of the road. A white Acura had struck a motorcycle.
After talking with witnesses, and reviewing camera footage of the incident, it was discovered the motorcyclist was traveling Southbound when he stopped at the red light. The Acura, straddling both lanes, came from behind and struck the motorcyclist. Luckily, the motorcyclist received only minor injuries.
The at fault driver, identified as Joanne Strong, was still in the driver’s seat when Sergeant West made contact with her. Strong had obvious signs of intoxication and refused to step out of the vehicle. Due to her refusing deputies’ commands, and displaying pre-flight indicators, she was assisted out of the vehicle and detained. It was also discovered she had a previous DUI.
Strong was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five to ten years, second offense refusal, two counts of obstruction of justice, and reckless driving. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
