A little bit goes a long way. Or in this case, straight to jail. A 25-year-old had his trip to Pennsylvania delayed after consuming “a little bit.”

On June 22nd at approximately 1:22 a.m. Sergeant S.C. Jett was traveling Southbound on Warrenton Road near Olde Forge Drive. While doing so, he observed a Malibu coming to the red light. Despite the light being red, and the clearly marked “No U-Turn” sign, the Malibu disregarded both and conducted a U-Turn. Having witnessed two traffic offenses simultaneously, Sergeant Jett conducted a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Luis Samora Perez of North Carolina. Perez advised he was on his way from North Carolina to Pennsylvania. The Keystone State would have to wait for Perez had signs of intoxication. When asked how much he had to drink, Perez advised he had “a little bit.” Within the vehicle Sergeant Jett located a 12 pack of beer with a little bit left in it. Only one unopened can to be exact.

It was discovered Perez had two prior DUI offenses and no driver’s license. Perez was charged with driving under the influence third offense within ten years with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, drinking while driving, driving without a license, failure to obey a traffic light, and failure to obey a highway sign. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, drive sober or get pulled over.
