There is a new scam on the rise involving scammers pretending to be with the Department of Motor Vehicles. The victim receives notice of potential penalties resulting from “an outstanding traffic ticket.” The message further advises the victim needs to act quickly or a number of negative outcomes will happen, including their registration being suspended, additional service fees being added on and their “credit score will be affected.” The message then provides a direct link to pay online.

Messages like this attempt to look official and get the victim to act quickly with fear tactics. If you receive scams like these, ignore the request and block the number. Thank you to the citizen who reported this scam to help notify the community.
