A self-proclaimed designated driver was charged with a DUI offense during the Memorial Day weekend.
On May 25th, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Sergeant J.D. Hurt was patrolling in the area of Butler Road and Castle Rock Drive. As Sergeant Hurt came to the intersection, the traffic light turned red and he stopped. The vehicle next to him did not. A traffic stop was conducted as Deputy H.R. Perkins responded to assist.
Within the vehicle was a driver and passenger. The driver advised she was the “designated driver” for the pair. Despite this, the driver had signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming approximately two beers. To make matters worse it was discovered the driver was wanted for a capias offense.
The driver was charged with driving under the influence and served on her outstanding warrant. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
We encourage those who plan on consuming alcohol to have a sober designated driver. |
