Four individuals received injuries as a result of a DUI related crash over the weekend.
On May 3rd at approximately 3:05 p.m. Deputy N.J. Amato responded to the 3700 block of Richmond Highway for an auto accident. The crash involved a Chevrolet and a Honda. The driver and passenger of both vehicles received injuries.
When Deputy Amato arrived, he and an off duty EMT provided first aid to the driver of the Honda. The driver was pinned in the vehicle and had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Amidst the crash scene, Deputy Amato observed several open containers of alcohol. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, the Honda driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The other three victims were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals.
After investigating the crash and talking with witnesses, it was discovered the Honda driver was in the parking lot of D & M Discount Auto Sales, located at 3799 Richmond Highway. He would roll through a stop sign and entered onto the highway directly in front of the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet that was traveling Southbound would not have enough time to avoid a crash and struck the Honda. It was also discovered the Honda driver had two prior DUI related incidents.
Warrants for driving under the influence third offense in ten years, reckless driving, drinking while driving, and failure to stop at a stop sign were obtained for the Honda driver, who is still receiving medical care. DUI maiming charges are pending depending on the extent of the injuries sustained by the victims.
