A 56-year-old Stafford woman apologized for her drunken choices after being caught behind the wheel Sunday night.

On February 18th at approximately 8:37 p.m. Deputy K.L. Steffenhagen responded to Garrisonville Road for a be on the lookout. A caller advised a red Tahoe was driving slower than the speed limit, and had been swerving. Knowing these to be clear signs of an intoxicated driver, Deputy Steffenhagen continued looking for the vehicle until she found it.

Nearly twenty minutes later, Deputy Steffenhagen discovered the vehicle in the Ann’s Mobile Home Park area with the driver exiting the vehicle. The driver stumbled out of the vehicle and after making contact with Deputy Steffenhagen advised “I’m sorry, I’m drunk”. She was indeed correct, and made sure Deputy Steffenhagen knew that, for she would state it thirteen more times.

The driver advised she consumed three bottles of whiskey. Within the vehicle another bottle of whiskey was located. It was also discovered the driver had a revoked license due to a previous DUI conviction in 2021.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, driving with a revoked license, drinking while driving, and the traffic lane violation. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.

While we appreciate people apologizing for their behavior, we appreciate it more when people drive sober.
