What is faster, a bicycle, or a Stafford County Sergeant? One Stafford man learned the answer first hand Tuesday night.

On November 7th at approximately 11:24 p.m. Sergeant M.E. Gordon was in the area of Warrenton Road and Short Street. While driving, she observed a man riding a bicycle without any lights on crossing the roadway. Considering how dangerous it is to ride a bike across traffic in the dead of night, especially on Warrenton Road, Sergeant Gordon attempted to stop the rider. The rider would refuse commands and continue to pedal away, resulting in a pursuit.

This Tour de France was quickly tour de done when Sergeant Gordon drove ahead of the rider to get in front of him. Once off the bike, the rider would continue to refuse commands and attempt to flee. His flee attempt did not go as planned as Sergeant Gordon was able to detain him with the assistance of nearby deputies. Throughout their interaction, Sergeant Gordon noticed signs the rider was under the influence of narcotics.

The 23-year-old rider was charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, public intoxication, eluding police, and riding a bicycle without lights. The magistrate was unable to conduct a bond hearing due to the riders conduct, so he was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail pending his ability to participate.
