Drunk or treat, smell vodka, get a free ride to Regional Jail. A 48-year-old Stafford woman was caught driving drunk instead of handing out candy.

On October 31st at approximately 6:00 p.m. many trick or treaters were out and about. Meanwhile, Sergeant R.S. Dominguez and Deputy D. Austen were responding to Choptank Road for a report of a drunk driver. The caller advised a Tesla was tailgating her, weaving in and out of traffic, crossed the double yellow line, and ran a stop sign. Deputies were able to locate the reckless vehicle amidst the sea of ghouls and goblins and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver originally denied consuming alcohol prior to driving. She would later admit to consuming beverages of the alcoholic variety after deputies noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath, and the open bottle of vodka within the vehicle. After conducting field sobriety tests, she received handcuffs instead of a trick or a treat.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .2, drinking while driving, failure to maintain the lane of travel, and failure to obey a stop sign. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.

The only thing scarier than monsters, is driving drunk. Drive sober or get pulled over.
