One juvenile’s joyride was interrupted with a traffic stop and criminal complaints early Saturday morning.

On September 2nd at approximately 12:29 a.m. Deputy K.L. Steffenhagen was traveling Eastbound on Garrisonville Road when she observed a vehicle fail to yield and nearly cause a collision. Deputy Steffenhagen conducted a traffic stop on Raintree Boulevard and made contact with the two occupants. The 15-year-old driver did not possess a driver’s license, provided a false identity, and was driving the passenger’s father’s vehicle, which he did not have permission to use.

While Deputy Steffenhagen was attempting to contact both juvenile’s parents, the driver fled from the vehicle on foot. He disregarded Deputy Steffenhagen’s commands to stop and instead cussed her out. Deputy Steffenhagen stayed with the vehicle and passenger until the registered owner could arrive on scene. She was able to identify the fleeing driver and responded to his residence to converse with his parents. While at the residence, Deputy Steffenhagen made contact with the fleeing driver, who was still wearing the same clothes he had on when he ran from the traffic stop.

Criminal complaints for unauthorized use of a vehicle, obstruction of justice, false identifying himself to law enforcement, and the traffic violation are pending for the underage driver. The passenger was not charged.
