For those who didn’t participate in the D.A.R.E. program, staying away from drugs is the smart move. One Stafford man must have missed that lesson as he attempted to partake of drugs in front of a deputy.

On August 4th at approximately 7:27 p.m. our communications officers, which we are currently hiring for, received a drunk driver complaint. The caller advised a vehicle was weaving in traffic while the driver was smoking something a bit more powerful than the average cigarette on Warrenton Road and South Gateway Drive. Deputy B.M. Taylor just happened to be in the area like it was destiny.

Deputy Taylor was able to swiftly locate the still running vehicle at Wawa, located at 9 South Gateway Drive. The 25-year-old male was still in the driver’s seat unconscious. In his hands, in plain view, was a suspected controlled substance. When the driver awoke to see Deputy Taylor staring back, he attempted to snort the remaining substance. To stop the snorting suspect, he was detained.

A search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of additional suspected controlled substances. He was charged with driving under the influence, as well as, possession of controlled substances. The magistrate decided to hold him without bond after providing a brief lecture on his “gravely poor” decision.
