A 41-year-old Stafford man was arrested on his third DUI offense after an observant citizen noticed him swerving on Garrisonville Road Saturday night.

On July 1st at approximately 11:36 p.m. Deputy B.E. Vaughn was traveling on Garrisonville Road when he was flagged down by a citizen. They informed Deputy Vaughn of a reckless driver and provided a description of the vehicle. It wouldn’t take Deputy Vaughn long to locate the suspect vehicle on Puller Place and make contact with the driver.

The driver, Eugene Appiah, advised he was driving his children despite having his license revoked due to a prior DUI conviction. Deputy Vaughn noticed he had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. After conducting field sobriety tests, Deputy Vaughn informed Appiah he was under arrest. When he did, Appiah suddenly changed his story saying he wasn’t the driver. The quick change in stories did not fool Deputy Vaughn.

Appiah was charged with driving under the influence third offense in ten years with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, driving after forfeiture of his license, and two counts of child neglect. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
