A 34-year-old Stafford woman assaulted two deputies during her arrest for public intoxication yesterday. Her continuous disorderly behavior in full view of the magistrate earned her a stay at Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On June 29th at approximately 12:58 a.m. deputies responded to the Motel 6, located at 401 Warrenton Road, for a noise complaint. Staff advised a couple was having a rather loud quarrel outside. When deputies arrived, they made contact with both individuals, one of which was cooperative, one of which was the exact opposite. The female was extremely agitated, and showed signs of being heavily intoxicated. She also gave a false identity, which was quickly discovered considering she attempted to impersonate a 60-year-old. She was subsequently arrested and identified as Janean Bethea.

During her ride to the magistrate’s office, she continued using racial slurs, and cursing at deputies. When she arrived at the magistrate’s office, the suspect refused to exit the deputy’s vehicle. Instead, she slipped through her handcuffs and attempted to assault deputies. Additional deputies intervened and were able to place her in handcuffs once again; however, she did assault one deputy during the process. While walking her into the magistrate’s office, she once again assaulted another deputy as her disruptive attitude continued. The deputies were not seriously injured.

The suspect continued to scream racial slurs and be belligerent in the magistrate’s office. The suspect was charged with public intoxication, false identity to law enforcement, two counts of obstruction of justice, and two counts of assault and battery on law enforcement. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
